Schedule - This is a busy week for us, Mike Newell has been organizing the Otsego
County Fair display which includes the parade around Midstate Speedway on
Tuesday evening. This is the nicest county fair I've ever seen and weel worth the trip,
click here for last years event, it's worth the trip. On Friday evening the club will visit
Penn Can Speedway for the 'Legends of Penn Can' night, another worthwhile event to
attend. Click here to get an idea of what when on last year. Should be a fun week.

6/26/08 I've been remiss in reminding readers that our club will be
at 5 Mile Point this coming Saturday the 28th for the Heath Memorial races.
At this point we have confirmed that we'll have Chuck Akulis, Don Beagell,
and Carl Nagel (plus who ever we can find) driving our cars during the
intermission for an exhibition. A former racers reuinion has been planned by
track and it should be a great time. On Sunday the club travles to Utica-Rome
Speedway for NYSSCA night and a club display, should be a great weekend.

We're sorry to hear of the passing of one of the Southern Tier racing's
fixtures Bob Whitman. Bob organized Raceworld events, drove pacecars, gave
out candy and assisted in any way he could at local events, he passed
this past Tuesday at age 62. Signing in at 5 Mile won't be the same without
Bob, we offer our condolences to his family.

reunion as below.
CUBA LAKE RACEWAY 5th annual 50's stock car racing luncheon
This is your invitation to attend this annual CLR luncheon for all those that remember
or have a love of stock car racing from those wonderful 50s and 60s. Over 50 drivers
and other personnel that raced at CLR along with other tracks from that era are all
coming. Drivers from Ohio, Nevada, Florida, Ontario and many points in NYS and PA
are coming. Many drivers that made their stardom in the 60s are also coming. The
past CLR luncheons have become very popular with the whole stock car racing world
it seems. Because of the popularity we are having this years luncheon at Moonwinks
again, just north of Cuba, NY. This is your chance to be with and talk with these
greats from that era of stock car racing.
When: July 25th 2007 (Wed), Reservations deadline is July 7th. Cost is $14.00 per

Dave Conde sent along the latest update on Bill Wimble which relates that his blood
work looks good as well as his swelling from the radiation treatments. Bill's wife
Nancy relates that he is not in much pain and his weight has stabilized. They wish
everyone a Happy New Year and want to thank everyone for the cards they have
received. Dave added that bill's 75th birthday is this coming January 11th. We'd like
to wish Bill a Happy Birthday with many returns.

This update on Bill Wimble was forwarded by Dave Conde from Bill's wife Nancy:
Hi All:
I know you are all concerned about how Bill feels after his final
week of chemo. He did very well (I think better than the first
round). His voice is crackly and he is extremely tired. Included
in the chemo preparation is medication for nausea (he will have to
take pills for that now that chemo is over with). They told him it
could take 10 to 14 days to get over the nausea.
He has 8 more radiation treatments (4 days next week). Dr Kahn
(radiation oncologist)said he has done very well through all of
this. He started out with 15 positions being radiated in the morning
and 14 in the afternoon. He was down to 7 positions (2 times a day)
today and will be down to 2 positions starting Monday.
I am convinced that all of the prayers coming his way are the answer
to him doing so well.
I will send another update if anything changes. If not, I will send
one when all treatments are over with.

12/5/06 Every once in a while you get a little ray of sunshine in your life that makes
you feel good. Whether it's a nice big dog that refuses to move out of your path until
you rub his belly or maybe your wife has a steak on the grill when you get home, good
stuff that makes everything else you do in life seem worthwhile. Today is one of those
days and this time it came in the mail from Bill Wimble who obviously isn't just a
champion on the track, but in life as well. Attached below is his thank-you to not just
us but to all in the wonderful sport of racing that work to preserve it's history and
roots. Authors like Lew Boyd and Andy Fusco, webmasters like Otto Graham, Bill
Ladabouche and Mark Southcott, event organizers like Richard Parry, Dave Conde,
Jim Chase and Ford Easton and historians such as Mike Monnat, Mel Ogden and John
Flock. And of course, members of all antique and vintage racing organizations - your
efforts are truly appreciated. Bill sends his thanks to all who have wished him well
below, and I want to thank Bill for sending it as it truly made my day. I hope it makes
yours as well.

11/27/06 I knew I missed something..my 'filing' system isn't the best.

To new Grampa Gary Wood on the birth of his grandson Grady Thomas
Heard, 9lbs. 12 oz. born 11/20/06. Better start on that racecar for him now

This news of Bill Wimble was forwarded to us by Dave Conde from Bill's
wife Nancy.
Hi All:
Bill is doing well so far. He isn’t able to swallow food very well and for the past 2
days is living on Milkshakes. I have developed an 1830-calorie milkshake(not for
me!!) Almost everything he puts in his mouth tastes terrible to him. Yesterday he went
out for a walk (about a mile) and did well. He also does some exercises every morning
(he has done a series of Royal Canadian Exercises daily for 23 years). He can’t do all
of them because of the feeding tube.
We met with the Radiation doctor on Wednesday and he was pleased that Bill did well
with the Chemotherapy. He wants him to beef up for the next round coming up in 3
weeks. It is very difficult to take in a lot of calories when things taste terrible, you
have no appetite and it hurts to swallow. He has had 24 radiation treatments to date
with 38 to go. His skin is red and sore in spots on his upper chest, neck and head.
Bill enjoys all of the emails and cards sent his way. He has read 2 novels over the
weekend which he usually doesn’t have time to do. I have started to decorate for
Christmas which I enjoy.
We had our 40th wedding anniversary on Friday. We had a trip to Hawaii planned
that we had to postpone. We will go next year some time. Got to get over this hurdle
right now.

popular Nascar Sportsman Champion Bill Wimble has been diagnosed with cancer

07/04/06 We apologize for the delay in updating the website, as you may or may not
know we live in Upstate NY where damaging floods have affected many of
our friends & family. Our efforts have been concentrated on helping them
recover first.
Also, we are saddened to report that the President of the MVSCC, Gary
Byerly passed away at Holland Speedway on July 1st. Information
regarding his arrangements may be found at the Midstate Vintage Stock
Car Clubs website. We offer our deepest sympathies & condolences to the

Schedule - This is a busy week for us, Mike Newell has been organizing the Otsego
County Fair display which includes the parade around Midstate Speedway on
Tuesday evening. This is the nicest county fair I've ever seen and weel worth the trip,
click here for last years event, it's worth the trip. On Friday evening the club will visit
Penn Can Speedway for the 'Legends of Penn Can' night, another worthwhile event to
attend. Click here to get an idea of what when on last year. Should be a fun week.

6/26/08 I've been remiss in reminding readers that our club will be
at 5 Mile Point this coming Saturday the 28th for the Heath Memorial races.
At this point we have confirmed that we'll have Chuck Akulis, Don Beagell,
and Carl Nagel (plus who ever we can find) driving our cars during the
intermission for an exhibition. A former racers reuinion has been planned by
track and it should be a great time. On Sunday the club travles to Utica-Rome
Speedway for NYSSCA night and a club display, should be a great weekend.

We're sorry to hear of the passing of one of the Southern Tier racing's
fixtures Bob Whitman. Bob organized Raceworld events, drove pacecars, gave
out candy and assisted in any way he could at local events, he passed
this past Tuesday at age 62. Signing in at 5 Mile won't be the same without
Bob, we offer our condolences to his family.

CUBA LAKE RACEWAY 5th annual 50's stock car racing luncheon
This is your invitation to attend this annual CLR luncheon for all those that remember
or have a love of stock car racing from those wonderful 50s and 60s. Over 50 drivers
and other personnel that raced at CLR along with other tracks from that era are all
coming. Drivers from Ohio, Nevada, Florida, Ontario and many points in NYS and PA
are coming. Many drivers that made their stardom in the 60s are also coming. The
past CLR luncheons have become very popular with the whole stock car racing world
it seems. Because of the popularity we are having this years luncheon at Moonwinks
again, just north of Cuba, NY. This is your chance to be with and talk with these
greats from that era of stock car racing.
When: July 25th 2007 (Wed), Reservations deadline is July 7th. Cost is $14.00 per

Dave Conde sent along the latest update on Bill Wimble which relates that his blood
work looks good as well as his swelling from the radiation treatments. Bill's wife
Nancy relates that he is not in much pain and his weight has stabilized. They wish
everyone a Happy New Year and want to thank everyone for the cards they have
received. Dave added that bill's 75th birthday is this coming January 11th. We'd like
to wish Bill a Happy Birthday with many returns.

This update on Bill Wimble was forwarded by Dave Conde from Bill's wife Nancy:
Hi All:
I know you are all concerned about how Bill feels after his final
week of chemo. He did very well (I think better than the first
round). His voice is crackly and he is extremely tired. Included
in the chemo preparation is medication for nausea (he will have to
take pills for that now that chemo is over with). They told him it
could take 10 to 14 days to get over the nausea.
He has 8 more radiation treatments (4 days next week). Dr Kahn
(radiation oncologist)said he has done very well through all of
this. He started out with 15 positions being radiated in the morning
and 14 in the afternoon. He was down to 7 positions (2 times a day)
today and will be down to 2 positions starting Monday.
I am convinced that all of the prayers coming his way are the answer
to him doing so well.
I will send another update if anything changes. If not, I will send
one when all treatments are over with.

12/5/06 Every once in a while you get a little ray of sunshine in your life that makes
you feel good. Whether it's a nice big dog that refuses to move out of your path until
you rub his belly or maybe your wife has a steak on the grill when you get home, good
stuff that makes everything else you do in life seem worthwhile. Today is one of those
days and this time it came in the mail from Bill Wimble who obviously isn't just a
champion on the track, but in life as well. Attached below is his thank-you to not just
us but to all in the wonderful sport of racing that work to preserve it's history and
roots. Authors like Lew Boyd and Andy Fusco, webmasters like Otto Graham, Bill
Ladabouche and Mark Southcott, event organizers like Richard Parry, Dave Conde,
Jim Chase and Ford Easton and historians such as Mike Monnat, Mel Ogden and John
Flock. And of course, members of all antique and vintage racing organizations - your
efforts are truly appreciated. Bill sends his thanks to all who have wished him well
below, and I want to thank Bill for sending it as it truly made my day. I hope it makes
yours as well.

This news of Bill Wimble was forwarded to us by Dave Conde from Bill's
wife Nancy.
Hi All:
Bill is doing well so far. He isn’t able to swallow food very well and for the past 2
days is living on Milkshakes. I have developed an 1830-calorie milkshake(not for
me!!) Almost everything he puts in his mouth tastes terrible to him. Yesterday he went
out for a walk (about a mile) and did well. He also does some exercises every morning
(he has done a series of Royal Canadian Exercises daily for 23 years). He can’t do all
of them because of the feeding tube.
We met with the Radiation doctor on Wednesday and he was pleased that Bill did well
with the Chemotherapy. He wants him to beef up for the next round coming up in 3
weeks. It is very difficult to take in a lot of calories when things taste terrible, you
have no appetite and it hurts to swallow. He has had 24 radiation treatments to date
with 38 to go. His skin is red and sore in spots on his upper chest, neck and head.
Bill enjoys all of the emails and cards sent his way. He has read 2 novels over the
weekend which he usually doesn’t have time to do. I have started to decorate for
Christmas which I enjoy.
We had our 40th wedding anniversary on Friday. We had a trip to Hawaii planned
that we had to postpone. We will go next year some time. Got to get over this hurdle
right now.

Lastly, this week we received a call from Dave Conde of Hamilton, NY - He related that
popular Nascar Sportsman Champion Bill Wimble has been diagnosed with cancer
and it is being treated aggressively, who would expect anything else from Bill.

07/04/06 We apologize for the delay in updating the website, as you may or may not
know we live in Upstate NY where damaging floods have affected many of
our friends & family. Our efforts have been concentrated on helping them
recover first.
Also, we are saddened to report that the President of the MVSCC, Gary
Byerly passed away at Holland Speedway on July 1st. Information
