Update 10/21/06
Larry Witter is getting after his restoration of his #48
Chevy and doing a nice job of it.
Building the cage from scratch takes time.
Cage in place, frame is fishplated for strength.
Solid front crossmember and mounts to harness 261 Chevy power.
Larry Witter takes a break.
Additions 11/26/06
Lit up with Nikki's touch.
1938 Ford coupe lawn ornament.
Teardrop 49 in for body work. I hate bodywork...
Maybe I'll just paint it with a broom..
Dad's taking the other '38 coupe home, should've mentioned the 'watch your step' earlier..Not to worry, I got into it too.
Additions 2/25/07
Paul Chase's U2.
The picture sent to you from Jim Chase of # U2 is my old neighbor's car, Paul Chase
(Jim's dad), as you can see his name if you look close over the door. You can also see he
had a cartoon character painted of a man, smoking a cigar on the 1/4 panel. It was a
fancy looking sight with lightning bolts running the length of the hood in its bright yellow
glory and the original black as a background. The year was 1958 and I was in 3rd grade
and can still see in my mind the Chases towing barring by my house with the family in
their black Oldsmobile. In the middle of the summer, the Rotary club put on a soap box
derby on West hill in Edmeston. When it was over, all the kids went to the school football
field and were treated to a lap around it in Paul's #U2. Paul ran that season only and sold
it to Fred Tilbe and Elmer Lum Jr. (cousins) for the 1959 season. They kept the same
paint ,but put a little yellow paint over the "U" and changing it to a 7. It had now become
#72. Fred drove it one week and his cousin drove the next. I gave Fred a little skull and
cross bones flag one day in school as he was a janitor and in the movies I have of it, you
can see it waving over the middle of the windshield. In 1960,Fred "sold" his 1/2 to Elmer
and Bob Wing and Elmer ran it for a while until the frame got twisted up and they got #4F
which Fred Pope was involved. It was always a "B" class car. Dave Conde
#73 of Doug Fuller and U2 of Paul Chase.
Lee Chase #66 as found, Jim Chase has now restored this car.
Additions 3/11/07
The sun 'was' shining when Dad pulled out the '37.
Nothing like a little snow to make things cheery, Dad has fitted a neat '37 truck grill.
Full clipped fenders look cool..
The rears look good too, pieced together from several.
Right out of the 50's.
This will make a very sharp race car. Richard Ackerman has been working steadily on it and it shows.
