#24T JOHN MASON, GILBERTSVILLE, NY
THIS IS THE LAST OF WILL CAGLE'S COUPE BODIED MODIFIEDS, THE 24T. THE
'T' REPRESENTED 'TEST' CAR AS IT EMPLOYED A NEW SUSPENSION AND 2X4
FRAME RAILS IN THE REAR. THE CAR WAS BUILT FOR THE 1973 SEASON AND
RACED THROUGH 1974 PRIOR TO THE ADVENT OF THE PINTO BODIED CARS
THAT FOLLOWED. IT WAS FIRST PILOTED BY KENNY SHOEMAKER WHO
CLAIMED THE FIRST TWO FEATURES AT FONDA SPEEDWAY IN THE 1973
SEASON AND WON 75% OF THE RACES IT WAS ENTERED IN. PRETTY DARNED
GOOD 'TEST'. THE BODY IS 1936 CHEVROLET ON A 1953 CHEVY FRAME AND
WAS POWERED BY BIG BLOCK CHEVY ENGINES. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL CAR
AND HAS BEEN FEATURED IN THE 'FONDA!' BOOK, AS WELL AS WILL HIMSELF.
IT IS NOW PART OF THE JJOHN MASON STABLE IN GILBERTSVILLE, NY.
'Wily' Will Cagle of Florida traveled north to NY and rarely left empty handed. He employed
several different Coupes, Coaches and Gremlins en-route to racking up a (reported)
incredible 800 feature victories. Although he called this his 'Test' car, the only thing really
being tested was his competitors patience in trying to crack the coupe's dominance.
Tom Moore of Morris, NY originally introduced this car to our club in 1987. He's
pictured here @ Can-Am.
