'That's one fast chicken????'
Bob Hackel and Ron Hedger brought back the Flying 90 this past week.
And looked over the McClure 15, Bob's uncle was Bill Strosahl.
   2009 Season Preview. Finally, it's
here, the 2009 season kicks off next
week at Norwich, NY. And there isn't a
show on the schedule that isn't worth
attending. The car show in Norwich is a
big event, huge flea market and always
plenty of cars, a good place to catch up
with your friends winter news and
scrounge parts. We're then headed to
Tom Schwarz's 07 Racing Collectibles
shop on June 13, a great place to pick
some nice memorbilia. Back to the
re-openend Afton Speedway with the
NVDMRC on June 26 and then onto
5MP for the Heath Memorial on the
27th. The Heath Memorial is becoming
one of our favorite events as former
drivers take our iron for some laps
during intermission. July 11th we
return to Fonda for the first time in
years to join the Track of Campions on
NESCOT night, better take my helmet to
that one and get some autographs. On
July 22 we head to Utica-Rome
Speedway to honor Bill Wimble on
McCredy Motors night, I'm really looking
forward to that one. In talking with Roy
Kotary this past week, he related Bill
called his father Cliff up and they
discussed it for half an hour, we're not
the only ones looking forward to it... Ron
Hedger and Bob Hackel brought back
the Flyin' 90 from the Saratoga
Motorsports Museum this past week,
charge the batter and add a little gas, it
fired right up. Ready to go. The Legends
of Penn-Can follows on July 31st, fast
becoming another staple in our
schedule, again former drivers take the
cars out to exercise them and have a few
laughs. The Otsego County Fair takes
place in Morris , NY from Aug. 4th to
Aug. 9th and our display will once again
be organized by members John Mason
and Mike Newell, who always do a bang
up job. August 14 we're back at Afton
with the NVDMRC and maybe this time
we'll try our luck racing against the big
blocks, wanna see them run the first
time. Sept. 12 is the Central New York
Old Time HOF Induction which has
historically beenone of our biggest
shows. Again organized by Jim and Kay
Chase, it will take place at the Otsego
County Fairgrounds in Morris, NY, home
of Midstate Speedway. Bring your
camera as we ususaly have in excess of
25 antique modified stock cars at this
show. Sept. 19 we're off to Sherril, NY for
Craigs Motorsports Car Show followed
right up on the 20th at Little York for
another great car show in a nice setting
along Rte. 281 just north of Homer, NY.
Sept. 27th we head back to Brookfield,
NY for Wheel Days and finish up with
the Fall Meeting at C.R.A.P. Speedway
with Kiddy Rides for the Pumkin Farm
patrons. A schedule full of fun through
out the year.
Getting the McClure 15 ready to push
on for Norwich, Ihad to loosen one hub
(not bad) and took the dust cap off. This
has to be from Kneisal, it's stamped
'DAS GESPRIZTE HUHN'. OK? I tried
online tranlsations but all I get is 'The
Gesprizte Chicken' -  so I'll guess it's
something like 'Stand on the gas
chicken' or to that effect? Would love
some clarification if anyone knows.
Members Larry Witter and Richard Parry
have both survived serious operations
over the past month and both are now
on the mend. Larry is home
recuperating while Richard is still in the
Cooperstown hospital hoping to get
home soon. I hope to see both at shows
this summer as they get better. And
that's it for now, see you at Norwich.
