#13 - BUDDY BARDWELL, GILSUM, NH
Blazing Buddy
WHERE DO YOU START WITH A GUY LIKE BUDDY? WELL, HE
STARTED RACING IN THE EARLY 1950'S IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND
CONTINUED TO TERRORIZE THE LOCALS AS WELL AS FELLOW
YANKEES IN VERMONT THROUGH THE 60'S. HE WAS DUBBED
'BLAZING BUDDY' BY ANNOUNCER CHRIS ECONOMAKI AND NEVER
LET THE NAME DOWN. HE WON TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS IN
KEENE AS WELL AS FAIRHAVEN AND COPPED THE NEW
HAMPSHIRE STATE FAIR RACE A FEW TIMES AS WELL. HIS
'FABULOUS HUDSON HORNET' POWERED '34 FORD 3 WINDOW
CAR HE CALLS 'HORNY' IS AS WELL KNOWN IN THE NORTHEAST
AS BUDDY HIMSELF. WHEN THE HORNS FELL OFF A FEW YEARS
BACK ON THE INTERSTATE, HE WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
WHEN A STRANGER WHO HAD FOUND THEM BROUGHT THEM
BACK TO HIS SHOP AND THEY WERE PROMPTLY PUT BACK
WHERE THEY BELONG. BUDDY WAS ONE OF OUR MEASURING
STICKS IN THE EARLY HISTORY OF THE MASCC AND CONTINUES
TO RUN COMPETITIVELY TODAY.
